Now in its second session, IT in the D provides classroom instruction as well as real world IT experience to class participants, via volunteer IT professionals from the five program partner companies, all located in downtown Detroit. The free initiative was created to identify and grow the technology talent in the region for the city’s burgeoning tech hub.
Program partners Quicken Loans, Compuware Ventures, GalaxE.Solutions, Marketing Associates and Wayne County Community College District kicked off the second session of “IT in the D” on Thursday, October 18th at Compuware’s headquarters in downtown Detroit’s urban core. Twenty eight students are enrolled in the ten-week program. The students come from 15 different colleges and universities including Wayne State University, Walsh College and Washtenaw Community College
The inaugural class of 20 students graduated in September and includes individuals who are continuing their education as well as those who have been hired into full-time technology positions.
“Once their foundational training is complete, the sky is the limit for what these graduates may accomplish next,” said Linglong He, Chief Information Officer of Quicken Loans. “With IT opportunities in Detroit continuing to grow, we look forward to these individuals playing a tangible role.”
